This corner of Kent is packed with wonderful cycling opportunities. The range of routes is quite extraordinary - from country lanes and chocolate box villages, to beach front promenades and sea walls...

The well known Viking Coastal Trail is one of the most picturesque circular leisure routes in the area. Ride the 32 miles (51km) along the Kent coast through Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate, and on to the surrounding villages. Or maybe enjoy the route in shorter sections, allowing you to spend time at the popular attractions on the way.

Hawthorn Farm is close to several cycle routes - many are very well known, and others less famous, but none the less, popular with locals and holiday makers alike:

  • Viking Coastal Trail (32 miles) an attractive circular leisure route around the Isle of Thanet
  • Cathedral to Coast (50 miles) another marvellous circular route between Dover, Canterbury and Folkestone
  • Crab and Winkle Way (7.5 miles) an almost totally traffic free route form Canterbury to Whitstable
  • Great Stour Way (3 miles) a traffic free multi-user route along the banks of the Rive Stour
  • Sandwich to Rye (56.5 miles) a great ride for experienced cyclists, taking in spectacular coastal scenery
  • Betteshanger Park (6.2 miles) rugged mountain bike trails for varying abilities, plus 1.9 miles (3km) of tarmac track suitable for children.

The NCN is a network of safe, traffic-free paths and quiet on-road cycling and walking routes. The NCN routes in east Kent are 1, 2, 11, 15, 16,17, 18 and 174. You can see the routes in more detail on the Sustrans website.
